FUEL AND OIL RECOMMENDATIONS
Fuel
Use only dean, fresh, unleaded regular grade
gasoline.
CAUTION
Do not mix oil with gasoline.
Octane Rating
The octane rating of a gasolineis a measure of
itsresistanceto =knocking". Use a minimumof 87
octanebytheantiknockindex is recommended.The
antiknockindexis postedon servicestationpumps
in the IJ.S.A.
NOTE
Off "knocking or pinging'occurs, use a different
brandofgasolineor higheroctane rating.
Oxygenated Fuel
Oxygenates(either ethanolor MTBE) are added
to thegasoline. If you use the oxygenatedfuel be
sure it is unleadedand meets the minimumoctane
ratingrequirement.
The followingare the EPAapprovedpercentages
offuel oxygenates.
ETHANOL: (Ethyl or GrainAlcohol)
You may use gasoline containing up to 10%
ethanolbyvolume.
MTBE: (Methyl TertiaryButylEther)
You may usegasolinecontainingupto15% MTBE
by volume.
METHANOL: (Methylor Wood Alcohol)
You may use gasoline containing up to 5%
methanolby volume, as long as it also contains
cosolventsand corms,ion inhibitorsto protectthe
fuel system. Gasoline containingmore than 5%
methanol by volume may cause starting andfor
performance problems. It may also damage
metal, rubber, and plasticparts of your fuel sys-
tem.
