1. CARAVAN TRAVEL CHECK LIST
Before travelling it is important to make sure your caravan is secured and in good condition
for travel. Below is a checklist of things to note before you make your trip if you have not used
your caravan in a while or it is your first trip.
o Check your tow vehicle and trailer are roadworthy. Check your brakes and lights are
working.
o Check wheel nuts, bearings, suspension are in good condition.
o Check your tyre pressure and wear. Make sure tyres are of the same construction on
all wheels and have a tread depth of 1.6mm or more
o Make sure your maximum weight does not exceed what is recommended for your
caravan and car (refer to weights and loads)
o Make sure ball weight is 7-10% of total ATM (maximum unhitched weight of fully
loaded trailer)
INSIDE:
o Test the smoke alarm by pressing the Test button until it sounds. Be sure to do it at
arm’s length away.
o Roof skylight hatch is closed.
o Windows are all closed and locked
o If required check scupper vent is open to prevent dust ingress.
o Fridge and microwave are closed and secure.
o Pantry, kitchen drawers and under bed drawer are locked.
o Table legs are locked into position.
o Ensuite roof vent is closed, ensuite cabinet is locked, shower head is secure
o Make sure there is no one inside the caravan you are towing.
OUTSIDE:
o Entry door is closed and locked. Check frame to make sure its secured. Handle should
be flat to the door.
o Check safety chains, coupling and tow pin are clean and in good condition before
attaching. Make sure to keep hands and fingers clear and safety chains are attached.
o Front gas bottle and jerry can storage area is secure. Make sure all bottles are closed
and gas is off.
o Inspect the fire extinguisher, make sure the gauge is in the green area and there is no
corrosion or damage.
o Check awning brackets are firmly attached and bolts are not loose.
o Test the 240V circuit breakers with test button. Make sure you have packed a 15A
extension lead if you plan to use 240V mains power.
o Test Camec Breakaway System to make sure it is charged (with test button) and is
working correctly. Disconnect the trailer plug from the tow vehicle, check fuses, and
pull the break-away pin from the break-away switch attached at the A-frame (near
where the trailer connects to the tow vehicle). The electric brakes and brake lights of
the caravan should activate.
o Make sure RedVision system is turned off.
o Make sure HWS heater fuel supply is shut off.
o All storage lockers outside are closed and locked.
