The Dirt Devil SM11 is a versatile floor and handheld steam cleaner designed for indoor household use. It offers a powerful 1500W motor, a 380ml water tank capacity, and a steam rate of 20g/min, with a quick heat-up time of 20 seconds. The cleaner features a 5m cord length and weighs 3.5kg, making it relatively lightweight and maneuverable for various cleaning tasks.

Function Description:

The SM11 functions as both a stick steam cleaner for floors and a detachable handheld steamer for more targeted cleaning. It uses steam to clean and refresh surfaces without the need for harsh chemicals. The main body connects to a mop head for floor cleaning, and the handheld unit can be detached to use with various attachments for different surfaces and areas.

Usage Features:

Assembly:

The SM11 is designed for quick and easy assembly. The main body pushes into the mop head until it clicks, and the handle then pushes into the main body until it clicks.

Filling the Water Tank:

To fill, the water tank is removed by pressing the tank release buttons. The cap is pulled open, and the tank is filled with cold water. It is crucial not to overfill and to ensure the hard water filter is in place before reattaching the tank. For areas with hard water, using distilled, de-mineralized, or filtered water is recommended to prevent limescale build-up and maintain optimal performance. A descaler solution is advised after every 5 hours of usage.

Using the Steam Cleaner (Floor Mode):

  1. A microfibre mop pad is placed on the floor, tab side up, and the mop head is positioned onto it, ensuring full coverage.
  2. The cleaner is plugged into the mains; a blue light indicates power on, and a green light indicates it's ready for use.
  3. The user places a foot on the mop head and pulls the handle back to recline the unit.
  4. Steam is produced by squeezing the trigger in short bursts to prevent overwetting floors.
  5. The steam cleaner is moved slowly back and forth across the floor, focusing on high-traffic areas.
  6. After cleaning, the unit is returned to an upright position, locked, and unplugged. The mop pad is removed by holding a corner with a foot and lifting the cleaner.

Cleaning Carpets:

  1. With the microfibre mop pad attached, the mop head is pushed into the front of the carpet glider, and the back of the mop head is clipped in. The carpet glider is specifically for refreshing carpets.
  2. The cleaner is plugged in, and once the green light indicates readiness, the handle is reclined.
  3. Steam is applied in short bursts while moving the cleaner slowly over the carpet.
  4. To release the carpet glider, a foot is placed on the clip and pushed down, then the steam cleaner is lifted.

Using the Handheld Steamer:

  1. The handheld steamer is released from the main body by pressing the release button.
  2. The water tank is removed, filled with water, and replaced in the handheld unit.
  3. An attachment is chosen and connected to the 360° tool adaptor, which then clicks into the handheld steamer nozzle. The rotation collar can be twisted to select one of four cleaning angles.
  4. The handheld steamer is plugged in, and once ready, the trigger is squeezed to produce steam.
  5. Precision Tool: Ideal for hard-to-reach areas like corners, around taps, and for removing soap scum, grease, and grime from baths, shower enclosures, hobs, and cookers.
  6. Soft Scrub Brush: Designed to agitate and remove dried-on grease, grime, and dirt build-ups from cookers, hobs, sinks, taps, and worktops. Its soft bristles are suitable for delicate surfaces, and an integrated scraper edge helps with stubborn stains.

Maintenance Features:

Emptying the Tank:

After each use, the water tank should be emptied and rinsed with clean water. This involves removing the tank, opening the cap, pouring out excess water, rinsing, and then replacing the cap and tank.

Cleaning the Microfibre Mop Pad:

The microfibre mop pad can be washed in a washing machine at a maximum temperature of 40°C. Bleach or fabric softener should not be used. The pad must be allowed to fully dry before reuse.

Replacing the Hard Water Filter:

The hard water filter, located behind the water tank, should be checked and changed periodically, typically every 2-3 months, depending on water hardness and frequency of use. To replace, the water tank is removed, the old filter is pulled out, a new filter is inserted, and the water tank is replaced. The steam cleaner should not be operated without the filter.

Removing Blockages:

If water is released through the bleed valve on the back of the handheld steamer, it indicates a blockage. The mop head should be removed, and a thin object (like a paper clip) can be inserted into the indicated area to clear the blockage. Tools should be clean and free from debris, and rinsed under running water. It is crucial not to insert sharp implements into the nozzle to prevent damage.

Safety Precautions:

The manual emphasizes several safety warnings, including the danger of scalding, the importance of unplugging the device before maintenance or changing attachments, and allowing it to cool down. It warns against using the cleaner outdoors, immersing it in liquid, or using it on wax-polished floors, acrylic surfaces, or steam/water-sensitive materials. The cleaner should not be aimed at people or animals, and hot areas or attachments should not be touched. Children should not use or play with the machine. The water tank should only be filled with cold water.
