Chapter 4: Maintaining The DR TRIMMER/MOWER
Regular maintenance is the way to ensure the best performance and long life of your machine. Please refer to this manual and the
engine manufacturer's owner's manual for maintenance procedures. Service intervals listed in the checklist below supersede
those listed in the engine manufacturer's owner's manual.
Regular Maintenance Checklist
NOTE: Consider that the service intervals shown are the maximum under normal operating conditions. Increase frequencies under
extremely dirty or dusty conditions.

Check Engine Oil Level
Check General Equipment Condition, e.g. Nuts, Bolts, Welds, etc.
Check and clean out the Mow-Ball™ Support.
Replace broken or frayed Cutting Cords.
Check the Mow-Ball™ Support Line Plates for wear.
Clean Engine Exterior, Cooling Fins and remove collected grass trimmings.
Check the Belt for fraying or stretching.
Lubricate Throttle Cable, Trimmer Control Cable and Idler Pulley with SAE 30 Oil.
Clean Engine Air Foam Filter
Change the Engine Oil and the Oil Filter* 1

Replace the Engine Paper Air Filter Cartridge
Adjust Clutch Cable on the SELF-PROPELLED model.
Remove the Bottom Shield and clean out collected debris.
Check Battery Voltage (Electric-Start models)
Replace the Spark Plug
* An Oil Filter is on COMMERCIAL and SELF-PROPELLED models only
Removing the Mow-Ball™ Support Assembly
Tools and Supplies Needed:
Head Locking Tool (supplied with your DR TRIMMER/MOWER) or a #3
Phillips head Screwdriver with at least a 6" shank
Gloves
1. Insert the Head Locking Tool or Screwdriver into the hole in the Frame, then
rotate the Mow-Ball™ Support Assembly until the tool fits into a second hole
in the shaft, locking it into place (Figure 29).
Before performing any maintenance procedure or inspection, stop the engine, wait five (5) minutes to allow all parts to cool.
Disconnect the spark plug wire, keeping it away from the spark plug.
