Easy-Start ES Instruction Manual
Options
SECTION 4
4-15
Application Notes
Extended Time-Current Option
This option would enable the Easy-Start ES to be
used on NEMA A, B, C, D, or any three-phase
induction motor with locked rotor codes up to 8.0
KVA per horsepower.
This EXTENDED TIME-CURRENT feature is
accomplished by calibrating the starting current
with main DIP switch DS1, and after the motor
has accelerated to full speed, by re-calibrating
the Easy-Start ES for the normal running current,
based on the settings of both DS1 and DS2.
(See Example-1.)
Terminal TB1-8 on the main logic board is the
enable terminal for DS2. It can be enabled with a
+12V dc signal.
The Extended Time-Current option cannot be
turned on and off with a DIP switch. In order to
enable this option,
a connection must be made
between TB22-1 on the option board and TB1-
8 on the main logic board.
The option board
then applies +12V dc to TB1-8 on the logic board
at the End-Of-Ramp, and electrically switches the
ac current calibration from STARTING current to
RUNNING current.
Notice - When using the Extended Time-
Current option, do not make a connection
between TB1-2 and TB1-8 on the main logic
board.
Example-1:
Motor: 150 HP, 180 Amps, 460V ac 3-phase,
service factor=1.00
Locked rotor code-G
(5.6 - 6.29 KVA per HP)
Max Locked Rotor Current
= 6.29 KVA/HP X HP /460 X 1.732
= 6.29 X 1000 X 150/460 X 1.732
= 1184 AMPS (658% FLA)
To determine which Easy-Start ES rating will be
needed:
Divide 1184 by 5 1184/5 = 236.8 Amps
Use a model rated equal or greater than 236.8
amps.
Select Model ES260: Rated at 260 amps
continuous
Rated at 5 X 260
= 1300 amps 20 seconds,
which is more than the
1184 amps required.
