A fuel mixture that is too rich can also cause this issue; in this case, open the choke, clean or replace the air filter, and adjust the carburetor. Also, check the spark plug: if the spark gap is incorrect, covered with carbon, fouled with fuel, or defective, adjust the gap to 0.65mm (0.026 in.), clean or replace the plug entirely. Ensure the stop switch is in the ON position.

Finally, the spark arrestor screen might be plugged; replace it.
