UnderstandingtheSafetyInterlock
System
Thesafetyinterlocksystemisdesignedtopreventthe
enginefromstartingunless:
•Thebladesaredisengaged.
•Themotioncontrolleversareintheneutral
position.
•Theparkingbrakeisengaged.
Thesafetyinterlocksystemisdesignedtoinitiate
engineshutdownwhen:
•Theparkingbrakeisdisengagedandtheoperator
getsoffmachine.
•ThePTOisengagedandtheoperatorgetsoff
machine.
•Theparkingbrakeisdisengagedandleversarein
andtheoperatorgetsoffmachine.
TestingtheSafetyInterlockSystem
Testthesafetyinterlocksystembeforeyouusethe
machineeachtime
1.Checkstartingcircuit.Startershouldcrankwith
thePTOdisengagedandmotioncontrollevers
movedoutintheparkingbrakeposition.The
operatordoesnotneedtobeintheseattostart
theengine.
Trytostartwithoperatorinseat,PTO
disengagedandmotioncontrolleversinthe
parkingbrakeposition-startermustnotcrank.
Trytostartwithoperatorinseat,PTO
disengaged,andtheleftmotioncontrollever
in,startermustnotcrank,repeatagainwiththe
rightleverin,thenwithbothleversin-starter
mustnotcrank.
2.Checkkillcircuits.Runengineatone-third
throttle,engagePTOandraiseoffofseat(but
donotgetoffofmachine)enginemustinitiate
shutdown.
Runengineatone-thirdthrottle,withbrake
disengaged,moveleversinandraiseoffseat(but
donotgetoffofmachine)enginemustinitiate
shutdown.

Important:Itisessentialthatoperatorsafety
mechanismsbeconnectedandinproper
operatingconditionpriortouseformowing.
DrivingForwardorBackward
Thethrottlecontrolregulatestheenginespeedas
measuredinrpm(revolutionsperminute).Place
thethrottlecontrolintheFastpositionforbest
performance.AlwaysoperateintheFast(fullthrottle)
position.
CAUTION
Machinecanspinveryrapidlybypositioningone
levertoomuchaheadoftheother.Operatormay
losecontrolofthemachine,whichmaycause
damagetothemachineorinjury.
•Usecautionwhenmakingturns.
•Slowthemachinedownbeforemakingsharp
turns.
