1.Entertheoperator'sposition.Startengineand
movethrottlecontrolaheadto1/2throttle
position.Disengageparkingbrake.
A.Movethebypassleversintothepushingthe
machineposition;refertothePushingthe
MachinebyHandsectioninOperation.With
thebypassvalvesopenandtheenginerunning,
slowlymovethemotioncontrolleversinboth
forwardandreverse(5or6times).
B.Movethebypassleversintotheoperating
themachineposition.Withthebypassvalve
closedandtheenginerunning,slowlymove
thedirectionalcontrolinbothforwardand
reversedirections(5to6times).
C.Stoptheengineandchecktheoillevelinthe
expansionreservoir.Addthespeciedoilas
untilitreachestheFULLCOLDlineonthe
expansionreservoir.
2.Repeatstep1untilalltheairiscompletelypurged

Whenthetransaxleoperatesatnormalnoise

ServicingtheCuttingBlades
ServiceInterval:Beforeeachuseordaily
Maintainsharpbladesthroughoutthecuttingseason
becausesharpbladescutcleanlywithouttearingor
shreddingthegrassblades.Tearingandshredding
turnsgrassbrownattheedges,whichslowsgrowth
andincreasesthechanceofdisease.
Checkthecutterbladesdailyforsharpness,andfor
anywearordamage.Filedownanynicksandsharpen
thebladesasnecessary.Ifabladeisdamagedor
worn,replaceitimmediatelywithagenuineExmark
replacementblade.Forconvenientsharpeningand
replacement,youmaywanttokeepextrabladeson
hand.
WARNING
Awornordamagedbladecanbreak,andapiece
ofthebladecouldbethrownintotheoperator's
orbystander'sarea,resultinginseriouspersonal
injuryordeath.
•Inspectthebladeperiodicallyforwearor
damage.
•Replaceawornordamagedblade.
BeforeInspectingorServicingthe
Blades
Parkthemachineonalevelsurface,disengagethe
bladecontrolswitch,andmovethemotioncontrol
leversoutwardtoengageparkingbrake.Stopthe
engine,removethekey,anddisconnectthesparkplug
wire(s)fromthesparkplug(s).
InspectingtheBlades
1.Inspectthecuttingedges(Figure39).Iftheedges
arenotsharporhavenicks,removeandsharpen
theblades;refertoSharpeningtheBlades.
2.Inspecttheblades,especiallythecurvedarea.If
younoticeanydamage,wear,oraslotformingin
thisarea(item3in
Figure39),immediatelyinstall
anewblade.
