5.0 LEAKDETECTION
Afterthecontainerhasbeenfilledwiththerequiredquantityofagent,itmustbecarefullycheckedforleaks.All
potentialleakpointsoneachcontainermustbecarefullyinspectedwithanargonleakdetectorcheckedagainsta
calibratedleakstandardtotheminimumleakrateof1.26x10‐3
cc/sec.Besuretopayparticularattentiontothe
valverecoilcapventholes,theportscontaininghigh‐pressurevalvecores,andthevalveNGTthreads.Soapsolutions
(e.g.,SwageLokSnooporitsequivalent)canbeusedinconjunctionwiththeargonleakdetectorasasecondaryleak
detectionmethod
tohelpisolateleakspickedupthebythedetector.
NOTE: Valvemustbedrypriortousingtheargonleakdetector,sincestandingsoapsolutioncancauseafalse
positivereadingontheargonleak detector.
ContainerswithNOindicationofleakageareacceptableforshipmentandsystemuse.Recordcontaineracceptance
date,anycommentsorremarks,andtheinspector’sinitialsinthefillstationlogbook.
Containerswithleakswillbeinspectedandrepairedorrebuiltaftertheyhavebeen
emptiedsafelyviaapipenetwork
thatisterminatedwithacontrolledorifice.
6.0 CONTAINERPRESSURECHECK
Onceleaktestingiscomplete,verifythatcontainerpressureiswithinthelimitsasdetailedinthepressurevs.
temperaturechartfortheappropriateagentinAppendixA.2.Thecontainerfillpressurewillbewithin±43psi(3bar)
ofthenominalfillpressure.
6.1 ProceduretoInstallPressureGauge
Removeandretaintheplugfromthepressuregaugeport.
Priortoinstallingthepressuregauge,lubricatetheO‐ringonthepressuregaugeassemblywithMolykote55
oritsequivalent.Usecarenottogetlubricantintothepressuregaugeport(Figure6.1‐1).
IMPORTANT: DONOTapplyPTFEtapetotheexternalthreadsonthepressuregaugeassembly.
Screwinthepressuregaugeassemblybyhanduntilresistanceisfeltandpressureregistersongauge.Usea
wrenchtoscrewinthepressuregaugeassemblytwoadditionalturns,thencheckthepressure.
CAUTION: DONOTcross‐threadthepressuregaugeassemblyduringinstallation.
Removethepressuregaugeassemblyandreinstallthepluginthepressuregaugeport.
WARNING: WhenremovingthepressuregaugeassemblyfromapressurizedPROINERTcylinder,a“pop”soundwill
beheard.Thisisnormalandtheresultofaminoramountofgasbein gtrappedinthepressuregauge
port.
Securetheshipping/safetycaptothecylinder.
