The FIT Remote Display Pinion is an e-bike control unit and display designed for a tidy, minimalist cockpit, providing all relevant information at a glance without distractions. It serves as the primary interface for controlling the FIT e-bike system and displaying trip data. The device is available in several product codes, differentiated by cable length and the inclusion of a spacer: 500093 (cable length 450mm, without spacer), 501103 (cable length 800mm, without spacer), 501263 (cable length 450mm, with spacer), and 501264 (cable length 800mm, with spacer). It operates within a temperature range of -5 to +40 °C and can be stored between -10 and +50 °C. With an IPX7 protection class, it is resistant to water immersion up to 1 meter for 30 minutes. The unit weighs approximately 0.1 kg.
Function Description:
The FIT Remote Display Pinion integrates control and display functions, allowing users to manage the e-bike system without removing their hands from the handlebars. It displays key settings and information about the vehicle and current trip across various screens. The display shows notice/danger alert messages, current speed, current level of assistance, light status (main beam/dimmed headlight/off), and an eShift gear indicator.
The operating element features an On-Off button, a rocker switch for navigation (right, left, and press), plus/minus buttons for adjusting settings, a push assist/boost button, and a light button. The compact Pinion TE1 e-trigger gear lever is specifically designed for shifting with Pinion Smart.Shift technology, offering clear haptic feedback and precise shifting. It is maintenance-free and waterproof (IP66).
Usage Features:
- Switching On/Off: The electric drive system can be switched on by pressing the On-Off button for at least one second, provided the battery is sufficiently charged and the display is inserted. The system automatically switches off after a period of inactivity, which can be adjusted in the settings. Manual switch-off is also achieved by pressing the On-Off button for at least one second.
- Navigation: Users can navigate through different main screens using the rocker switch. The settings menu is accessible only when the e-bike is stationary. The rocker switch allows direct selection of screens from an overview. Plus/minus buttons are used to scroll through lists in menus.
- Pairing with FIT E-Bike Control App: The FIT Key Card, based on ABUS SmartX technology, enables a secure connection to the FIT E-Bike Control app. This allows for digital integration and access to additional functions.
- Assistance Modes: The e-bike offers several assistance levels, adjustable via the plus and minus buttons:
- FLY: Maximum motor assistance for active riding at high pedaling frequencies.
- FLEX: Motor assistance optimized for E-MTB trails and agile e-bikes.
- FLOW: Motor assistance for energy-saving cross-country trips or moderate off-road terrain.
- ECO: Minimal motor assistance for optimum efficiency and maximum range.
- OFF: No motor assistance; the e-bike functions as a normal bicycle, with all on-board computer functions still available.
- Pushing Aid: Activated by briefly pressing the push assist/boost button, this feature makes it easier to push the e-bike, especially on steep paths. The speed can be adjusted via the settings menu and temporarily increased/reduced via the TE1 trigger buttons.
- Boost Function: This function provides a brief increase in motor support to the FLY level, regardless of the selected assistance level. It can be activated at speeds of 7 km/h and above, provided at least one quarter pedal revolution is detected.
- Lighting: The light button cycles through different lighting modes: dimmed headlight, main beam, and light off. The system may automatically switch between dimmed and daytime running lights if a daytime running light function is present.
- eShift: Manual gear shifting is possible using the up/down buttons. The display shows the current selected speed and provides gear change recommendations.
- Settings Menu: This menu, accessible when stationary, allows configuration of various parameters including:
- Reset values: Reset trip data (manually or automatically) or factory settings.
- Basic settings: Language, date and time (including time zone, daylight saving, and automatic time setting), and units (metric/imperial).
- Connectivity: Connect/disconnect pulse monitors and manage call display.
- My Bike: Altitude calibration, automatic backlighting, power off settings, vibration feedback, motor shutdown when braking (S-Pedelec only), disable menu display, and pushing aid speed.
- Gears: eShift settings, including gear assignment, Smart.Shift options (Start.Select, Pre.Select), and calibration.
- Charging: Normal, Fast, and Long Life charging modes.
- Tire pressure: Pressure unit, front, and rear tire pressure (with optional sensors).
- Messages: View current error messages.
- About: View software version and system component settings.
- Navigation with FIT E-Bike Control App: When connected to the app, the display shows navigation information, including distance to target, battery charge status for the route, and current range in different assistance levels. Users can enter destinations directly or select planned tours from a linked komoot account.
- Call Display: In conjunction with the FIT E-Bike Control app, incoming calls can be displayed. (Android: phone calls only; iOS: phone and messenger calls).
Maintenance Features:
- Cleaning: The display and operating element should be cleaned carefully with a soft, damp cloth. It is crucial not to immerse them in water, use pressure washers, water jets, compressed air, or harsh cleaning agents. The display should be removed from the e-bike before cleaning.
- Troubleshooting: The system continuously monitors its components. Error codes are displayed, and pressing the rocker switch acknowledges them. The manual provides a comprehensive error table with descriptions and recommended actions, such as restarting the system, checking connections, charging the battery, or contacting a specialist dealer.
- Repair: Repairs requiring special expertise and tools should only be performed by a specialist dealer. Only original parts should be used for maintenance and repair.
- Headlight Adjustment: The headlight beam should hit the road surface 10 m in front of the e-bike.
- Battery Storage: For extended periods of non-use (over four weeks), the e-bike, display, battery, and charger should be stored in a clean, dry place, protected from sunlight, ideally between 10 °C and 20 °C. Temperatures outside -10 °C to +40 °C should be avoided. The battery should be stored separately in "Storage" mode (charged to about 60%) for optimal longevity. "Long Life" mode charges the battery to about 80% to retain capacity longer, with slightly less available capacity.
- Calibration: Gear calibration can be initiated via the display's gear menu, especially after crank disassembly or if the system loses values, to ensure proper shifting and riding behavior. Pedals should not be loaded during calibration.
- Error Handling: The system uses status LEDs (green for maintenance, red for persistent errors) and display messages (information, warning, error, critical error) to communicate issues. Actions range from simple restarts to requiring specialist dealer intervention.
