Maintenance Features

The F116-P is designed for reliability with minimal maintenance, but certain procedures are essential for optimal performance and safety.

General Directions:

  • Qualified Personnel: Mounting, electrical installation, start-up, and maintenance must be performed by trained and authorized personnel.
  • Safety Precautions: Always ensure leads are potential-free before opening the enclosure. Discharge static electricity before handling electronics.
  • EMC Compliance: Install in accordance with EMC guidelines.
  • Grounding: Properly ground the metal enclosure, especially if hazardous live voltage is present.
  • Intrinsically Safe Applications: Follow specific instructions in Chapter 5 for intrinsically safe installations.
  • Humidity Control: For low-temperature or high-humidity environments, dehumidify the internal atmosphere (e.g., using desiccant) to prevent condensation. Replace desiccant periodically.

Battery Life-Time:

  • Influenced by sensor type (NPN/PNP consume more than coil), input frequency (higher frequency shortens life), analog output signal (disable if not in use or use external power), display update rate (slow rate extends life), pulse output, communications, and low temperatures.
  • It is strongly advised to disable unused functions to extend battery life.

Periodic Checks:

  • Enclosure and Wiring: Inspect the condition of the enclosure, cable glands, front panel, and input/output wiring.
  • Process Accuracy: Re-calibrate the flowmeter and re-enter K-Factor alterations as needed due to wear and tear.
  • Low-Battery Indication: Monitor for the low-battery icon and replace the battery shortly after it appears.
  • Cleaning: Clean the window and enclosure with a lint-free cloth dampened with mild soap solution. Avoid aggressive solvents.

Repair Policy:

  • The product cannot be repaired by the user. Repairs must be carried out by the manufacturer or an authorized agent.
  • RMA Process: To initiate a repair, obtain a Return Material Authorization (RMA) from the supplier, complete a repair form with detailed problem information, and send the product to the provided address within 30 days.
  • Warranty: Products within the warranty period will be repaired or exchanged within three weeks. For out-of-warranty products, a repair estimate will be provided.

Battery Replacement Instructions:

  • Safety First: Before replacement, ensure the new battery's marking matches the installation type (refer to paragraph 6.3.1). Disconnect all leads and ensure the unit is potential-free.
  • Intrinsically Safe Batteries (Type PC): Only use certified FW-LiBAT-021 batteries (re-ordering nr. SPC02) with the correct Ex marking. Never use safe area batteries in hazardous areas.
  • Safe Area Batteries (Type PB): Use StdLIBAT021 batteries (re-ordering nr. SPB02).
  • Procedure:
    1. Open the enclosure and remove cable-connectors.
    2. Remove the protective cover by unscrewing two screws and lifting it.
    3. Disconnect the old battery connector.
    4. Remove the old battery from the plastic cover (do not remove the battery clip). Store it in a plastic bag or insulate the connector to prevent short circuits.
    5. Install the new, undamaged battery into the clip, ensuring correct wire orientation.
    6. Connect the new battery to its counterpart.
    7. Replace the protective cover and secure it with screws (<1Nm).
    8. Verify the screen comes on, then return cable-connectors and close the enclosure.
    9. Initialize date and time if required.
  • Disposal: Dispose of batteries according to international, manufacturer's, and plant owner's standards and regulations. Do not dispose of as general waste or incinerate; return to a recycling point.
