DIN EN ISO 13406-2 standard
Permanently unlit or lit p ixels
The standard of production techniques today cannot guarantee an absolutely fault-free screen
display. A few isolated constant lit or unlit pixels (picture elements) may be presen t. The maximum
permitted number of pixels faults is stipulated in the international standard ISO 13406-2 (Class II).
Examples:
A 20" or 22" at-screen monitor with a resolution of 1680 x 1050 has 1680 x 1050 =
17664000 pixels. Each pixel consists of thre e subpixe ls (red, green and blue), so there
are almost 5.3 million subpixels in total. In accordance w ith ISO 13406-2 (Class II),
a maximum of 6 pixels and 9 subpixels may be defective.
Pixel
A pixel consists of 3 subpixels, normally red, green and blue. A pixel is
the smallest element that can be generated by complete functionality of
the displa y.
Subpixel
A subpixel is a separately addressable internal structu re within a pixel that
enhances the pixel function.
Cluster A cluster contains two or more defective pixels or subpixels in a
5x5pixelblock.
