3 Net Unit
3.1 Port extension
A redundantly designed Net Unit can be enhanced with a port extension.
In this case two redundant switches supplement the existing ports of the Net Unit to provide
up to 96 redundant LAN ports.
The switches ICX6450-24 and -48 of the "base" Net Unit are connected to those of the port
extension with an FC cable.
In the case of multi-rack systems, the switches can be integrated into different racks.
i On the SE300 the port extension is possible if the Net Unit is redundant in design.
3.2 10 Gb Net Unit extension
The"normal" Net Unit supports transmission speeds of up to 1 Gbps. The optional 10 Gb
Net Unit extension enables high-speed internal and external network connections on the
SE server with transmission speeds of up to 10 Gbps.
The 10 Gb Net Unit extension consists of a switch of the Brocade ICX 7750-48F model, and
in a redundant design of two switches of this model. The 10 Gb Net Unit extension is
possible for all SE server models (redundancy of the "normal" Net Unit is not required).
The ICX 7750-48F is connected to the "standard" Net Unit via Twinax-cables or standard
optical cables. For a distance of more than 5 m between the two units, SFP+ connectors
are required.
When the 10Gb Net Unit extension consists of two switches, both ICX 7750-48F switches
are stacked via two QSFP (Quad Small Form-factor Pluggable) Twinax cables.
The SE Manager displays each ICX 7750-48F switch as a separate hardware unit in the
Hardware → HW inventory menu.
