Activating h ard disk protection
► Call up th e BIOS Setup and select th e Security menu.
If you have not assigned BIO S passwords yet, define the supervisor and the user
password now, if desired (see "
Secu rity functions" , Pa ge 49).
► Mark the Hard Disk Security field and p ress the Enter key.
► In t h e D rive0 area mark the Set Master Password field and press the Enter key.
Enter new P assword then appears and you are asked to enter a password.
► Enter the password an d press the Enter key.
Confirm new P assword requires you to confirm the password.
► Enter the password again and press the Enter key.
Setup Notice: Changes have been saved is displayed to confirm that the
new password has been saved.
► To assign th e password for the secon d hard disk (Drive1), go to the Drive1 area and
select the field Set Master Password, then proceed in exactly t he sa m e w ay as for
setting up the password for the first hard disk (Drive0).
The field Password Entry on Boot is set to Enabled by default. You can e xit the BIOS
Setup once you have finished changing the s ettings.
► Fr om the Exit menu, choose the option Exit Saving Changes.
► Press the Enter key and select Yes.
The notebook reboots and you r hard disk is now protected with a passw ord. The system
will ask you to enter the password when the notebook is restarted again.
Deactivating
hard disk protection
To cancel a password without setting a new one, proceed as follows:
► Call up th e BIOS Setup and select th e Security menu.
► Mark the Hard
Disk Security fi eld and press the Enter key.
► In t h e D rive0 area mark the Set Master Password field and press the Enter key.
Yo u will be
initially reque sted to enter the old password by the Enter current Password prompt.
Yo u will th en be requested to enter a new password by the Enter new Password prompt.
► After entering the password , press the Enter key three times.
► Fr om the E
xit menu, choo se the option Exit Saving Changes.
► Press the Enter key and select Yes.
The note
book reboots, and passwo rd protection for the hard disk is c ancelled.
► To cancel the p assword for the s econd hard disk (Drive1), go to th e Drive1 area
and select the field Set Master Password, then proceed in exactly the same way as
for cancelling the pa ssword for the first hard disk (Drive0).
