3 Overview of the installation steps
This chapter provides an overview of the steps necessary to install your server.
Links guide you to sections where you find more detailed information on
individual steps:
Ê Before you start, carefully read the safety instructions in chapter "Important
information" on page 39.
Ê Transport the server to the place where you want to install it.
Ê Unpack the system, check the contents of the package for visible transport
damage and check whether the items delivered correspond to the details on
the delivery note, see section "Unpacking the server" on page 54.
Ê The server includes loose parts. Keep these parts in a safe place. They are
designed to be used for installing optional components at a later time.
Ê Make sure that all manuals are available that are listed in section
"Documentation overview" on page 12; print out the PDF files if required.
Ê Mount the server in the rack according to the instructions in section
"Installing/removing the server in/from the rack" on page 55.
Ê Wire the server. Follow the instructions in the sections "Connecting devices
to the server" on page 69 and "Notes on connecting/disconnecting cables"
on page 75.
Ê Connect the server to the mains, see section "Connecting the server to the
mains" on page 71.
Ê Familiarize yourself with the controls and indicators on the front and rear of
the server, see section "Control elements and indicators" on page 77.
