GE MEDICAL SYSTEMS CT 9800 QUICK SYSTEM

13-2 Advisory and Caution Messages
Your first indication of a potential artifact problem will be from the Advisory message written to the system error
log when the image has a high potential of containing center artifacts but not sufficient enough to degrade image
quality. This message may be expected when the upper cuts of the head are reconstructed. The frequency of the
messages in these conditions can be used to determine if the system needs repair.
The Advisory messages are intended to provide you with an early warning that the system may be generating
artifacts before they reach a level where the potential for mis-diagnosis will occur. This message will be displayed
in the format shown below:
MESSAGE # 385 RESLMSG #2 Logged: 11/2/93 11:59:10
ier = 590
Advisory: Exam 39 PRS 1 Image 1 may contain Artifacts near ISO-center
Small. 10.0 mm Aperature, 120 KV, 70 ma, scan #1
Goodness-of-fit delta_Z_fit scale-factor delta_Z_used applied?
**Sigma** Sigma advisory Caution PSI (noise)
Normal residual threshold threshold value
.000303 .000057 .0001 .0001 .001017
The Caution message indicates that a significant & unacceptable artificat has been detected. This message will
also be written to the system error log and displayed in the format below:
MESSAGE # 391 RESLMSG #2 Logged: 11/2/93 11:59:33
ier = 591
CAUTION: Exam 39 PRS 1 Image 2 may contain Artifacts near ISO-center
Small. 10.0 mm Aperature, 120 KV, 70 ma, scan #2
Goodness-of-fit delta_Z_fit scale-factor delta_Z_used applied?
Sigma **Sigma** advisory Caution PSI (noise)
Normal residual threshold threshold value
.000320 .000038 .0001 .0001 .001023
A caution error log message is accompanied by a simpler message displayed on the user console. This is
intended to eliminate the risk of warning the operator.
The message comes in two formats:
a) During PIPELINE scanning, the following message appears on line 12 after the image is displayed.
“POSSIBLE ARTIFACT IN LAST SCANNED IMAGE, CHECK LOG”
b) The following message appears in the data field of line 3, after display completion of RETROSPECTIVE or
DYNAMIC SCAN PROSPECTIVE images.
“0353/1/014 POSSIBLE ARTIFACT, CHECK LOG”
(where 0353/1/014 = exam, PRS, IMAGE #)
The appearance of this message does not automatically indicate a failed detector. There are many causes of
center artifacts in images. If either the Advisory or Caution messages occur frequently, you should use AutoTest
and AutoSummary (Section 8-9) and other standard troubleshooting procedures in order to confidently isolate the
cause. If you choose to replace the detector before properly troubleshooting the system, the same artifacts are
likely to be present with the replacement detector.
