APPENDIX A
SLICEF IMAGE FILE SPACE DETERMINATION
The precise selection of raw data files will be established with experience and operational considerations. To aid
in selecting the quantity of Raw data files at the time of the Load-From-Cold process, the approximate file size
relationship are as follows:
256 X 256 pixel Display file 215 Blocks
320 X 320 pixel Display files 325 Blocks
512 X 512 pixel Display files 815 Blocks
NORMAL Raw data file 3600 Blocks
LARGE Raw data file 4150 Blocks
Total Disc file space
Single Drive System 342000 Blocks
Dual Drive System 711000 Blocks
Examples of Typical Raw Data file (SLICEF) Selections
SINGLE DRIVE SYSTEM
Number of NORMAL SLICEFS 24 30 45 57
total available (512 X 512) 313 287 220 167
Number of LARGE SLICEFS 24 50 75 100
total available (512 X 512) 297 266 190 129
DUAL DRIVE SYSTEM
Number of NORMAL SLICEFS 24 50 75 100
total available (512 X 512) 766 651 541 430
Number of LARGE SLICEFS 24 50 75 100
total available (512 X 512) 750 617 490 363
Should the number of Raw data files selected be too large, then space on the disc that could be otherwise used
for image files will be unused. In order to monitor SLICEF usage, the following procedure will enable access, data
comparison and thus establish the average use of the Raw data files over a period of time. Where the date last
used is the same as the date that the system initialization took place, those SLICEFs are not being used, and can
be made available by decreasing the number of RAW DATA FILES through the use of REGEN.
