2 - BENEFITS
The mineral salts of Calcium and Magnesium, making up the “hardness”,
are the major cause of scale and damage to water systems, boilers,
heaters, household appliances, taps and fittings.
When water hardness is higher than 15° f, it is recommended to install
a water softener, which retains Calcium and Magnesium salts through
special food grade resins, thus removing the excessive hardness.
Thanks to the protection against scale performed by the softener, it
is possible to keep the energy efficiency of water systems, household
appliances and taps always at best, thus saving both on maintenance
costs and consumptions as well as on energy bills (electricity, gas, etc.)!
The cost of the softener itself is hence repaid quickly in some years! Other
important benefits are: less use of detergents, softer and more lasting
clothes, shorter cooking times, easier cleaning of house, sanitary ware,
taps and fittings, stainless steel sinks, benefits for beauty treatments and
personal hygiene (smooth skin, soft and bright hair).
3 - TERMS & GLOSSARY
WATER HARDNESS
It is expressed in French degrees (°f) and represents the quantity of
calcium and magnesium salts present in water.
Unit of measure = 1° f = 10 gr of calcium carbonate (CaCO3) present in
one cubic metre of water
IRON
It is necessary to know the type of iron dissolved in water. The Black Soft
water softener is able to remove the ferrous iron (i.e. dissolved iron, also
known as clear water). In presence of oxygen such type of iron oxidizes
and colours water red.
WATER SOFTENER
It is an appliance that, through special resins, removes Calcium and
Magnesium salts from water.
REGENERATION
It is a washing of the softener resins carried out with water and salt in
order to remove Calcium and Magnesium retained by the resins.
INSTALLATION
It is the connection of the softener to the water system carried out by an
operator following the installation drawings of the manual.
START UP
It is to start the water softener. This operation is carried out by qualified
staff who checks the proper installation, tests the unit and start it up.
4 - CUSTOMER SERVICE
For technical support please directly turn to your dealer or
installer from whom you have purchased the machine.
Whenever you call it is necessary to specify the serial number
of the water softener (shown on the unit and on the carton box).
5 - GENERAL DIRECTIONS
To achieve the maximum performance from your appliance, we
recommend you to carefully read this instruction manual.
The water softener must be installed in a clean and dry place,
protected from frost, away from sunrays and accessible for future
maintenance, cleaning and salt refilling.
If the unit has been laid down or turned upside down, wait at least 8
hours before start up.
Installation and electrical connection must be carried out by a
qualified technician, by observing the national regulations in force and
the instructions listed in section 9 of this manual.
To avoid dangers of electrical shocks, never open the timer.
