2D steering is considerably different from the classic steering system. The possibilities it
offers are of particular value to competition pilots. On one hand, the 2D system offers much more
precise control of he canopy, but on the other it requires learning new (different) reflexes and
reactions. A pilot must spend some time exploring the system and perfecting his own technique
before flying 2D in a demanding competition environment.
As your skill improves at all speed settings
the differential application of both brakes
while banking will allow you to make very
effective turns by increasing the lift to assist
the turn when the lift axis is angled towards
the bank. Likewise engine thrust and speed
bar can be applied at certain times to
increase turn rate etc. These techniques come
with pilot experience and allow you to get the
most from your wing and achieve fully
coordinated, smooth turns, much like those
possible on a three axis aircraft.
