PTO
Gearbox Oil
Check PTO Gearbox lubricant every 8 hours of operation.
If leakage is observed, check more frequently. Check
lubricant before operation by visually observing oil level
in vinyl hose fastened to front of gearbox cover. Oil level
is correct when it is approximately even with center of
PTO output (lower) shaft.
PTO Clutch Adjustment
The PTO clutch adjustment should be checked every 100
hours.
To check adjustment, move PTO control lever forward
until the gaps in the clutch pac are closed (light forward
pressure on control). The PTO control lever should be
vertical (Figure 16).
NOTE: In extreme mowing conditions, it may be
necessary to adjust clutch tighter. If a tighter adjustment
is necessary, the PTO control lever should be
approximately 10º from vertical when gaps in the clutch
pac are closed (Figure 16).
To adjust (Figure 17):
1. Remove access panel and push back on end of bar
spring that loads the PTO clutch until the clutch gaps
are closed. Bar spring should be straight across
frame and PTO control lever should be vertical.
2. If bar spring does not line up with two anges on
clutch trunnion, loosen jam nut at end of stud bolt
from PTO gearbox, turn bushing until bar is straight
across, and tighten jam nut.
3. Loosen jam nut on the PTO slide rod (which loads
bar spring), turn bushing until bar spring is straight
across, and tighten jam nut.
4. Install access panel and check the clutch adjustment
as above.
