TROUBLESHOOTING
Problem Probable Cause
Unit
No sound or motion when
the ignition switch is turned
to the “Start” position.
PTO control not in the “On” position.
Range Selector in the "Fast or "Slow"
range.
Blown fuse.
Discharged battery.
Starting solenoid damaged.
Loose battery cable(s).
When the ignition switch is
turned to “Start”, the
solenoid “clicks” and the
engine starter motor does
not operate.
Discharged battery.
Battery cable connector(s) corroded.
Starter damaged.
When the ignition switch is
turned to “Start”, the
starter operates but the
engine does not start.
Faulty relay or relay connection(s).
Fuel tank empty.
Engine failure – See Engine Service
Manual.
Safety interlock switches out of
adjustment.
Engine stop solenoid damaged or out of
adjustment.
Battery discharged. Faulty fuse holder or battery.
Engine alternator failure.
Battery failure.
Cable is shorted to ground.
Engine continues to run
when the ignition switch is
rotated to the “Off”
position.
Ground wire not connected.
Ignition switch failure.
Engine stop solenoid damaged or out of
adjustment.
Engine runs rough or stops
after it gets hot.

Time Delay Failure.
Engine stop solenoid failure.
Fuse blows when starting
engine.
Defective starter solenoid.
Defective wiring.
Hydraulic lift will not lift
mower.
Hydraulic valve seals damaged or loose.
Cylinder seals damaged or loose.
Low transmission fluid level.
Transmission-Hydraulic pump failure.
Light does not come on
when the light switch is
moved to "ON" position.
Light burned out.
Defective light switch.
Loose wire connections.
Ignition switch failure.
Four Wheel Drive
(Optional) - Four wheel
drive will not engage.
Toggle switch not on.
Blown fuse or shorted wire.
Safety switch faulty or out of adjustment.
Faulty solenoid coil.
Unit operation is sluggish
when four wheel drive is
engaged.
Faulty solenoid on freewheel valve or
valve wiring.
Rear tires locking or sliding
in reverse with switch off.
Improperly adjusted or faulty safety
switch.
