555BAT™ Battery-Powered Bender
Introduction
555BAT™ Battery-Powered Bender
The 555BAT™ is intended to bend 1/2" – 2" conduit
and Schedule 40 pipe. The bender can be used in either
the vertical or horizontal bending positions. With fresh,
fully-charged batteries, the bender can perform over
100 bends in 2" rigid steel or IMC conduit.
The bender is equipped with two 12-volt batteries and
an onboard battery charger. A battery gauge with a
switch allows the operator to determine the charge level
of each battery. The bender can be used while charging
is in progress. The battery compartment is lockable to
prevent theft of the batteries.
Batteries
Two rechargeable 12-volt deep cycle batteries are
standard equipment on the 555BAT™ Battery-Powered
Bender. The batteries are connected in series to provide
24 volts to the bender. The batteries are intended for
use in any position, so the bender can be used to bend
in the vertical or horizontal bending positions.
To get the best performance from the batteries:
• Charge the batteries before first use.
• Charge the batteries after partial discharge rather
than after full discharge.
• Store the batteries at full charge; recharge every
6 months.
• Store the batteries at 68° to 77° F (20° to 25° C).
Batteries contain hazardous chemicals and produce
explosive hydrogen gas. Refer to the Material Safety
Data Sheet for Sealed Maintenance Free Lead Acid
Batteries for further safety information.
When replacement is necessary, replace with two
PowerSonic Model PS-12600 batteries, or equivalent
batteries with the following characteristics:
• 12-volt
• sealed construction
• rated by the manufacturer for use in any position
• deep-cycle type
• capacity of 60 amp-hours nominal
• dimensions as illustrated

Battery Charger
The onboard battery charger will charge new, fully
discharged 60 amp-hour batteries in 12 hours or less.
Larger batteries require more time to recharge. After
the batteries are fully charged, the charger switches
to a “float” mode to prevent overcharging the batteries.
The float mode will keep the batteries at full charge
indefinitely without overcharging.
The charger can be used while bending is in progress.
Note: Using the bender continuously to bend large
diameter conduit while charging will deplete
the batteries faster than the charger can
charge them.
See the battery charger instruction manual for a
complete set of safety information and operating
instructions.
Replacement batteries must be
rated by the battery manufacturer for
use in any position. Other batteries
may leak acid when the bender is
transported or used in the horizontal
bending position.
Failure to observe this warning can
result in severe injury or death.
