PROBLEM OCCURS = GROUND OPERATION AIR OPERATION BOTH
TROUBLE PROBABLE CAUSE REMEDY
Heater backfires,
burns with
pulsating
combustion or
shows smoky
exhaust.
1. Low Voltage.
2. Spark plug arcing at lead.
3. Faulty ignition system.
4. Improperly secured lead.
5. Ignition lead arcing.
Check power supply.
Inspect and or replace as indicated for
the separately provided components.
Replace.
Torque lead nut at igniter plug 15-20 ft.
lbs. and nut at ignition unit 12-15 ft. lbs.
Replace.
6. Spray nozzle loose.
7. Oversize spray nozzle.
8. Damaged or contaminated
nozzle.
9. Faulty fuel pump.
10. Faulty fuel pressure regulator.
Tighten nozzle to 75 to 100 inch pounds.
Check markings on nozzle. Replace
with nozzle of proper size.
Replace nozzle.
Repair or replace as indicated.
Reset or replace.
11. Insufficient combustion air.
Inspect and repair combustion air system
as indicated.
Heater starts, and
then goes out
1. Low voltage.
2. System does not requires heat.
3. Malfunction in control system.
4. Weak ignition.
5. Lack of fuel at theater.
6. Improper air balance between
exhaust and combustion air.
Attach external power.
Reset cabin control above ambient
temperature to check heater operation.
Check components as needed, according
to wire diagram for heater installation.
Check ignition system.
Check fuel system: Check thermostat or
cycling switch for operation.
Verify installation instructions unique
to unit.
Low Heat Output
1. Thermostat setting or cycling
switch.
2. Low fuel pressure.
3. Collapsed or blocked ducting.
Adjust or replace (See Heater
Accessories Sections 11.4.4, 11.4.5 and
Determining Temperatures Section
10.4.4 & 10.4.5.)
Check fuel pressure
Check ducting aft of heater
Heater fails to shut
off.
1. Heater fuel solenoid stuck
open; dirt under valve seat.
2. Defective control components
in external control circuits.
Remove and replace solenoid assembly
as required to restore correct operation.
Adjust or replace defective controls.
