Overview

This document is the instruction manual for the Heal Force EB03 High Frequency Electrosurgical Unit.

Function Description

The EB03 series High Frequency Surgical Unit is designed for use in various surgical fields, including general surgery, gynecology, urology, cerebral, dermatological, and heart departments. It operates by generating high-frequency electrical currents for cutting and coagulation of tissue.

The unit offers multiple modes of operation:

  • Cut Modes:
    • Pure cut: Provides a clean, precise cut.
    • Blend 1, Blend 2, Blend 3: Offer varying degrees of coagulation along with cutting, allowing for controlled hemostasis during tissue dissection.
  • Coagulation Modes:
    • Soft coag: Gentle coagulation for broad surface hemostasis.
    • Spot coag: Focused coagulation for precise hemostasis.
  • Bipolar Coagulation: Used for precise coagulation in specific areas, often in delicate procedures.

The EB03 unit features continuous running for 10/30 seconds, loading by intermission, indicating its ability to operate for short bursts with a cooling period. It supports two work modes as cut and coag, with pure cut, blend 1, blend 2, and blend 3 included in cut mode, and monopolar coag having two modes of soft coag and spot coag. Bipolar forceps are also supported for coagulation. A real-time detecting system for the detachment of the stick area is integrated, and the unit allows for start volume control of tone (not including alarm).

The manual includes graphs showing the relationship between output power and load for each mode (Pure cut, Blend 1, Blend 2, Blend 3, Soft coag, Spot coag, Bipolar coag), as well as curves for output power and voltage peak value for each mode.

Usage Features

Accessories: The unit comes with standard accessories including a hand-control pen, standard electrode, patient dual return electrode (soft), connecting cable for patient soft electrode (dual), unit fuse (6.3A), and power cord. Optional accessories include a foot switch, foot-control pen, patient single return electrode (soft), connecting cable for patient soft electrode (single), bipolar coagulation forceps, connecting cable of forceps, and hard patient plate.

Patient Plate Usage: The EB03 supports two kinds of patient plates: hard patient plate and soft patient plate. Hard patient plates offer a single patient plate, while soft patient plates include two kinds: single soft patient plate and dual soft patient plate.

  • Hard Patient Plate: Requires the medical staff to check if the plate is attached evenly to the patient skin to prevent burns. The LED for single patient plate mode illuminates, and the alarm activates if the plate detaches or resistance increases.
  • Dual Soft Patient Plate: The LED for dual patient plate mode illuminates, along with a green stick area display. The number of illuminated bars indicates the impedance and stick area. If the plate is loose or disconnected, causing a 30% increase in resistance, an alarm will activate, and output will stop.
  • Single Soft Patient Plate: Similar to the hard patient plate, the LED for single patient plate mode illuminates, and an alarm activates if the plate detaches or resistance increases.

Operation Process:

  • Power On: Turn on the power switch. The machine displays its type and version number and enters the last used settings.
  • Mode Setting: Select the desired mode (Pure cut, Blend 1-3, Soft coag, Spot coag, Bipolar coag) and adjust power using the increase/decrease buttons.
  • Power Adjustment: Pressing the power tuning switch for more than 3 seconds allows for rapid power adjustment.
  • Output Startup: The unit's output can be activated by the hand control pencil or pedal switch. The yellow switch and yellow pedal control cut, while the blue switch and blue pedal control coag. When cut or coag is activated, the corresponding LED illuminates, and a sound is emitted.
  • Stop Operating: The unit stops working when the button or pedal switch is loosened. Pressing the "POWER" button turns off the power.

Maintenance Features

Cleaning and Sterilization:

  • Accessories like hand control pencils, foot control pencils, and hard patient plates should be disinfected with 70% alcohol.
  • Disposable accessories should be properly kept.
  • The power cord, pedal switch, and cable should be maintained clean.
  • For cleaning and disinfecting accessories such as the hand control pencil, foot control pencil, and hard patient plate, do not soak them in cleaning agent or disinfectant.

Fuse Replacement:

  • To replace a fuse, disconnect the power cord and wait 10 minutes.
  • Open the top cover of the fuse unit with a screwdriver.
  • Select two fuse units of the same model and insert them into the socket.
  • Reinstall the top cover of the fuse unit.

Warranty Commitments:

  • The host machine and pedal switch have a one-year warranty from the date of procurement.
  • The warranty is void if the failure is due to misuse by the customer, or if the customer opens the host machine or disassembles the pedal switch.
  • Repairs beyond the warranty period will be charged.
  • Wiring diagrams and component lists are provided to approved maintenance units.

Troubleshooting: The manual provides a troubleshooting guide for common failures, categorized into external and internal failures.

  • External Failures: Include issues like no alternating voltage, fuse loose/broken, plate not properly inserted, improper contact of hand control pencil, improper contact of pedal switch, plate damaged, cable broken, or incorrect grounding. Solutions involve checking power supply, replacing fuses, securing plates, replacing pencils or switches, and checking wiring.
  • Internal Failures: Include issues like improper contact of plate plug/soft plate base, switch in plate socket damaged, wires of connecting plate switch detached, +5V switch power supply damaged, display panel or CPU panel damaged, optoelectronic isolator issues, relay non-pickup, excessive dust/moisture, power supply failure, or memory damage. Solutions involve replacing wiring, outlets, display panels, CPU panels, rear panels, power panels, or cleaning the unit.

Regular Check: Users should perform regular checks on performance and safety, including:

  • Power check (every half a year)
  • Low-frequency drain current check (every half a year)
  • Drain current to ground (<0.5mA)
  • Drain current to patient (<10µA)
  • High-frequency drain current check (every half a year) (<150mA)
