What does FP2 - Code 5 mean on Heat Controller Heat Pump?

  If your Heat Controller Heat Pump displays the FP2 - Code 5, which indicates an air coil low temperature limit, check for a dirty air filter and clean or replace it. Check the fan motor operation and airflow restriction, and ensure the external static is not too high by checking the static valve. If the air temperature is out of range, adjust the entering air to design parameters. For improper temperature limit settings (30°F vs. 10°F), normal airside applications will require 30°F. Check the temperature and impedance correlation per the chart.

Why does only the compressor run on my Heat Controller Heat Pump?

  If your Heat Controller Heat Pump only runs the compressor, check the G wiring at the heat pump and jumper G and R for operation. Jumper G and R for fan operation and check for voltage across BR contacts. Check the fan power enable relay operation (if possible). Check for line voltage at the motor and its capacity. Check the thermostat wiring at the heat pump, and jumper compressor operation in test mode.

Bring the water temperature within design parameters. For heating issues, check for dirty air filter and clean or replace it, check fan motor operation and airflow restriction, and ensure there is no construction dust on the air coil. Also, ensure the external static is not too high by checking the static valve. Bring the return air temperature within design parameters and check the superheat/subcooling versus the typical operation table. Finally, check the switch continuity and operation, and replace if necessary.

For cooling issues, check pump and valve operation and water flow rate. Also, ensure the inlet water is not too hot. Bring the return air temperature within design parameters. Inspect for scaling in the water heat exchanger, and check the superheat and subcooling. Reweigh the charge if the unit is overcharged and vacuum the system to remove non-condensables. Check the superheat and subcooling per chart if a restricted metering device is suspected.
