Before removing the fan, follow these steps:
1. Prepare the computer for disassembly (Preparation for disassembly on page 34).
2. Remove the following components:
a. Bottom cover (see Bottom cover on page 35)
b. Battery (see Battery on page 36)
c. Optical drive (see Optical drive on page 39)
d. Hard drive (see Hard drive on page 40)
e. Solid-state drive or Optane memory module (see Solid-state drive on page 42)
f. WWAN module and bracket (see WWAN module on page 43)
g. Keyboard (see Keyboard on page 47)
h. Internal frame (see Internal frame on page 51)
Remove the fan:
1. Disconnect the fan cable from the system board (1).
2. Loosen the three captive Phillips screws that secure the fan to the computer (2).
3. Remove the fan from the computer (3).
Reverse this procedure to install the fan.
