Slowlyraisetheleft‐hand/throttlesticktoincreasethespeedofthemainrotorblades
anduntilthemodelbeginstoliftoff.DoNOTraisethesticktooquicklyasthemodel
couldclimbtoofastcausingyoutolosecontroland/ormakecontactwiththeceiling
orother
objectsabove(thisisoneofthemostcommonwaysmostfirst‐timepilots
crash!).
Liftthemodelapproximately24–30inches(60–75centimeters)offthegroundand
concentrateon‘balancing’thethrottlestickpositionsothehelicopterholdsasteady
hoveraltitude.Itmayalsobehelpfultomakeafewshort‘hops’toanaltitudeofjusta
fewinchesuntilyou’refamiliarand
morecomfortablewiththecontrolinputsandtrim
settingsrequiredtomaintainasteadyhoverandaltitude.However,keepinmindthat
whenonlyafewinchesoffthegroundyou’llbein‘groundeffect’whichwillcausethe
helicoptertomovearoundmorethanittypicallywouldatapproximately
24–30inches
ofaltitude.
You’llfindthatitsometimestakesminorthrottleadjustmentstomaintainaltitudein
hover.Remembertokeeptheseadjustmentsasminimalaspossibleaslarge
adjustmentscouldresultinalossofcontroland/orapossiblecrash.
Whileattemptingtoestablishalow‐levelhoveroutofgroundeffect(approximately
24–30incheshighorhigher)youcanchecktoseeifanytrimadjustmentsarerequired
tohelpkeepthehelicopterfromconstantlydriftinginvariousdirections.Ifyoufind
thatthehelicopterconstantlydriftswithoutany
directionalcontrolinputitmaybe
besttolandthemodelbeforemakinganyadjustmentstothetrimsettingsusingthe
trimleversonthetransmitter(youcanfindmoreinformationregardingthelocation
andfunctionofthetrimleversinthe‘FlightControlsandTrimming’sectionofthis
