TheC.A.T.moduleisfactory‐installedinthenoseofthebodytokeepitasfarawayfromthe
3‐in‐1controlunitaspossible(inordertoensurethebestpossibleinterference‐free
performance).AsaresulttheEvolve300CXwilltypicallybe
slightlynose‐heavywhen
checkingthecenterofgravity(CG)relativetotheinner/outermainshafts.Thisisnotusually
aproblemwhenflyingindoorsbecauseafteraddingasmallamountofbackward/upelevator
trimthehelicopterwillhoverlevelwithoutdriftingforwardduetotheslightlynose‐heavyCG.
Howeverwhenflyingoutdoors,especiallyinanywind,itistypicallybesttoensurethatthe
CGofhelicopterissetsoit’sas‘neutral’(notnose‐heavyandnottail‐heavy)aspossible.
Otherwiseyoumayfindthatit’smoredifficulttochangedirectionquicklyandthatthe
helicoptermay
notalwaysmaintainadequatestabilitycausingittopitchorbanktoanangle
thatcannotberecoveredfrombeforeresultinginacrash.
TochecktheCGinstalltheLiPoflightbatteryinthehelicopterthenrotatethestabilizerflybar
untilit’spositionedperpendiculartothetailboomof
thebody.Liftthehelicopterbythe
flybarandchecktoseeifthelandingskids/bodyare‘level’relativetotheground/horizon.If
theyarenot‘level’theeasiestwaytoadjusttheCGistoaddsomeweighttothetailofthe
bodyasneeded.Werecommendusing
theadhesive‐backedleadweightsavailablefrommost
hobbystores.
Typicallyonlyabout1/4ounce(7grams)ofweightwillneedtobeaddedtothetailinorder
toachievethebestpossibleand‘neutral’CG.Youcanapplytheweight(s)totheoutsideof
thebottomsectionof
theverticalfin/tailorpossiblyeveninsidethefin/tailifyouprefer
(aftercuttingasmallopeningnearthetrailingedgetogainaccess).Also,it’sveryimportant
toensuretheweightisattachedtothebodyverysecurelysoitcannotfalloffduringflight,
handlingorstorage.
And
althoughaddingarelativelyminimalamountofextraweighttothehelicoptertoachieve
thebestpossibleCGwillhavelittletonodiscernibleimpactonoverallflightperformancefor
mostpilots,ifyouprefertonotaddweighttothetailyoucanalsoconsiderremovingthe
C.A.T.module(and
theultrasonicsensors/mounts)fromthehelicopter/noseofthebody
completely(howeverwedonottypicallyrecommenddoingso,especiallyifyoueverplanto
flyindoorswhereC.A.T.canhelptopreventcollisionswithavarietyofobstacles).

largeenoughandfreeofpeopleand
obstructionswerecommendusingtheswitchonthetransmittertoturnC.A.T.off.
