Maintenance - Winterization
It is recommended to fog these engines if prolonged (8 weeks) or more of storage is
expected or if the boat is stored for the winter (Do not fog engine until stalling occurs).
A fuel stabilizer should added at the end of the season before storage.
The coolers should be
drained of sea / raw water
by removing the front cover
of the oil cooler, or by
removing the anode plug
(see
Fuel Injection
System, Port (left) side
Fig.13, Item L
). The cover
is held on by only one bolt,
located in the center. To
remove, rotate the bolt
counter clockwise until
free. Let the cooler drain,
then reinstall the cover and
tighten the bolt. When
installing the front cover be
sure the rubber gasket is in
position at the perimeter of
the cooler shell.
The front cover should be
removed for cleaning the
debris from this coolers
water passages.
The headers can be drained by removing the blue plugs from the water inlet manifolds
located on each side of the engine. They may be located at the front or rear of the
engine depending on options. Let the header and exhaust system drain, then reinstall
plug.
Remove this
cooler cover to
drain and clean
Remove
these plugs,
one each
side, to
drain the
headers and
water rails
If the boat is to be stored in an area subject to freezing, the coolant should be checked
for strength and adjusted to be at least 50%, strong enough to stand -40F and left in the
engine.
If your boat has a sea strainer, drain the water to avoid freezing.
