Chapter 8. Using the Reader with Other Devices
Viewing a Reader File on Your Computer
When you capture a text le, you are actually creating two les on the Reader.
One has an .opf le extension. This is the le that you see in menus on the
Reader, and that you can play on the Reader or on a DAISY book player. The
other version is a plain-text le that you can read on your computer without a
DAISY book reader. This le is compatible with other devices as well, including
cell phones and PDAs. It is only visible when you connect the Reader to one of
these devices.
To view the text le you created on the Reader, connect the Reader to the
computer as described in the section titled Connecting the Reader to a
Computer. A message on the Reader display screen conrms that you are
connected to the computer.
On the desktop, navigate to the IntelReader folder and open the Texts folder.
Inside the Texts folder, the book you captured is in its own folder. Open the
folder that contains the book you want to read. You will see two les that have
the same name, but different le extensions. The le with the .txt extension is
the plain-text le that you can open and read without a DAISY book player.
Playing a DAISY Book on Your Computer
Playing a DAISY book on the Reader is as simple as pressing the Play button.
When you copy a DAISY book to your computer, however, you are actually
