Chapter 8. Using the Reader with Other Devices
When you nish copying les, disconnect the Reader from the computer, using
your computer's safe ejection procedure.
NOTE: If you disconnect a Mac from the Reader without using the Mac's
safe ejection procedure, or if the Reader shuts down because of low battery
charge while it is connected to a Mac, you may see one or more system les
in the Texts folder, such as the fseventsd-uuid le. To avoid seeing these les,
always safely eject the Reader from the Mac.
Connecting the Reader to an External Drive
An external drive is any drive that can be used to transfer data to and from the
Reader using a USB port. Using an external drive, you can transfer les to and
from the Reader. The les you transfer to the Reader must be in one of the
le formats that the Reader accepts, as described in the section titled Reader-
compatible Files.
The Reader supports the type of external drive called a ash drive. A ash drive
is a device about the size of your thumb that can store large amounts of data.
The Reader supports the FAT32 and EXT3 ash drive formats.
Connecting the Reader to a Flash Drive
To connect a ash drive to the Reader, plug the drive into the standard USB port
on the bottom edge of the Reader. A message conrms that an external drive is
connected.
