4.3 Truck-Box Installation (For -S Models Only)
The Alpha MUTT
®
models with “S” in the part number feature a slide-out base design. They are all-in-on
trailer testers built onto a platform with both the End User and Upfitter in mind. They are easy to install,
easy to operate, durable and weather protected, as well as easy to service.
Each unit arrives with all the accessories and a removable slide-out base. The base should be bolted to
the bottom of a service-truck box. Once installed, the tester can be operated in two positions. The HOME
position—tester pushed all the way into the rear of the service-truck box and locked in place—and the
EXTENDED position—tester protruding out of the service-truck box and locked in place. In the event the
tester needs to be removed from the truck for warranty, it can easily be disconnected by pulling up on
both blue levers and pulling it out past the extended position until the tester is completely disconnected
from the base. Never disconnect the tester from the base unless all air and power connections have been
removed.
Drilling Mounting Holes into the Service-Truck Box
1. Locate the provided template.
2. Lay the template (label side up) into the bottom of the service-truck box and slide it into the rear
left-most position.
3. Follow directions printed on template for drilling holes.
Placing the Slide-Out Base into the Service-Truck Box
1. Place the tester on level ground then pull up on both blue levers and extend the tester to the first
locked position. This operation is best completed with two people.
2. Pick up the tester and carefully place the back side of the slide-out base into the bottom of the
service-truck box. Be careful not to damage the front components, such as the 7-way socket during
this process. (See Figure 4-3A – 4-3D)
Bolting the Slide-Out Base to the Service-Truck Box
1. Move the assembly into position so that the 4 antivibration feet line up with the drilled holes in the
box.
2. Using the supplied hardware, thread bolts with washers through bottom of the box into each foot.
Loosely thread each bolt until the final position is confirmed. Apply final torque to all four bolts.
NOTE: This operation can be performed in two ways. The Primary method is to leave the tester
attached to the base, utilizing the extended position. The Alternate method involves completely
removing the base from the tester by pulling up on the two blue handles and sliding the tester out
completely. HOWEVER, this is NOT the recommended method, as reinstalling the tester onto the
base must be done with care to prevent damage to the base components.
