Makesurethatincaseoffreezingweatherthatthe
waterheateranditswaterlinesareprotectedto
preventfreezing.Damageduetofreezingisnot
coveredbythewarranty.
Lossoffreezeproteconmayresultinwaterdamage
fromaburstheatexchangerorwaterlines.
Withelectricalpowersupplied,thewaterheat
erwill
notfreezewhentheoutsideairtemperatureisascol d
as–22°F(‐30°C)forindoormodelsorisascoldas–4°
F(‐20°C)foroutdoormodels,whenprotectedfrom
directwindexposure.Becauseofthe“wind‐chill”
effect,anywindorcirculaonoftheairontheunit
willreduceitsabilitytofreezeprotect.
Theunitmaybedrainedmanually.However,itis
highlyrecommendedthat:
• draindownsolenoidvalvesareinstalledthatwill
automacallydraintheunitifpowerislost.
Theseareavailableinakit,J‐A105.
• asurgeprotectorwithterminalsisinstalledwhich
allowsthesolenoidvalvestooperateiftheunitis
disabledduetoadiagnos ccode.Thisis
availableasJ‐A106.
Inaddion,thesolenoidvalvesshouldbeconnected
electricallytoasurgeprotectorwithterminals.This
allowsthesolenoidvalvestooperateifthewa
ter
heaterisdisabledduetoadiagnosccode.
Thefreezeproteconfeatureswillnotpreventthe
externalpipingfromfreezing.Itisrecommendedthat
hotandcoldwaterpipesareinsulated.Pipecover
enclosuresmaybepackedwithinsulaonforadded
freezeprotecon.
Intheeventofapowerfa
ilureattemperaturesbelow
freezingthewaterheatershouldbedra inedofall
watertopreventfreezingdamage.
