The extension module in EX4400 switches is a hot-removable and hot-insertable eld-replaceable unit
(FRU). You can remove and replace an extension module without powering o the switch or disrupng
switch funcons.
CAUTION: We recommend that you install either a replacement extension module or a
cover over the empty module slot to reduce the risk of objects or substances entering
the chassis and to ensure opmal cooling of the switch.
To remove an extension module:
1. Take the extension module oine by issuing the following CLI command:
user@switch> request chassis pic offline fpc-slot
slot-number
pic-slot
slot-number
2. Wrap and fasten one end of the ESD wrist strap around your bare wrist, and connect the other end
of the strap to a site ESD point.
3. Loosen both capve screws on the faceplate of the extension module by using your ngers. If you
are unable to unscrew the capve screws by using your ngers, use the screwdriver.
CAUTION: Do not pull the extension module out of the module slot by holding the
faceplate of the extension module.
4. Hold both the ejector handles or the capve screws on the extension module and gently pull the
extension module toward you and out of the module slot (see Figure 117 on page 207, Figure 118 on
page 207, and Figure 119 on page 208).
