Disconnect an Acve Opcal Cable
Before you disconnect an acve opcal cable (AOC) from a device, ensure that you have taken the
necessary precauons for safe handling of laser (see Laser and LED Safety Guidelines and Warnings).
Ensure that you have the following parts and tools available:
• An anstac bag or an anstac mat to store the cable, if you are disconnecng the cable from all
the ports it is connected to
• Rubber safety caps to cover the ports on the device, or a replacement cable
• Rubber safety caps to cover the transceivers at the ends of the cable
• An electrostac discharge (ESD) grounding strap—not provided
To disconnect an acve opcal cable:
1. Disable the port to which the cable is connected by issuing the following command:
[edit interfaces]
user@device# set
interface-name
disable
2. Place the anstac bag or anstac mat on a at, stable surface if you are disconnecng the cable
from both the ports it is connected to.
3. Wrap and fasten one end of the ESD wrist strap around your bare wrist, and connect the other end
of the strap to a site ESD point.
4. Label the cable so that you can reconnect it correctly.
CAUTION: Do not leave the transceivers at the ends of the cable uncovered except
when connecng or disconnecng the cable. The rubber safety cap keeps the
transceivers clean and protected.
Do not bend the cables beyond their minimum bend radius. An arc smaller than a few
inches in diameter can damage the cables and cause problems that are dicult to
diagnose.
Do not let the cables hang free from the connector. Do not allow fastened loops of
cables to dangle, which stresses the cables at the fastening point.
5. By using your ngers, pull the tab on the transceiver aached to the cable to disengage it (see Figure
132 on page 232 and Figure 133 on page 232).
