8. Troubleshooting
8.1 Fault-finding and remedy
Below is a list of the frequent causes of malfunction and
instructions on how to remedy these. If a fault occurs
which you cannot correct, please contact your Kistler
distributor.
No measuring signal at the
output of the charge amplifier
Signal cable open circuit
Check measuring arrangement (con-
nections and cables).
Charge amplifier defective
Proceed according to the instruction
manual for the charge amplifier.
measurement mode
Proceed according to the instruction
manual for the charge amplifier.
Press Force Sensor defective
Repair at factory; proceed according
to section 8.2.
not possible (signal affected
by strong drift)
Poor insulation resistance in the
measuring chain
Determine the error source in stages;
check the drift with open or shielded
sensor input at the measuring in-
strument; same measurement with
cable connected without sensor;
check insulation resistance of sensor
and cable with Kistler insulation tester
Type 5493. Clean connectors.
Charge amplifier reaches the
limit during measurement
The force to be measured is too
high for the measuring range
selected
Select a wider measuring range on
the charge amplifier.
Input stage of the measuring
instrument defective
Exchange MOS-FET or operational
amplifier in the charge amplifier in-
put stage.
8.2 Repairing the Press Force Sensor
The Press Force Sensor cannot be repaired in the following
cases:
No output signal.
Wrong measurand because of reduced sensitivity (Note:
possible reason due to overload).
Strong drift not remediable by cleaning the connector.
