Maintenance Procedures and Safety Measures
Maintenance Procedures
1. Check the condition of the flyweights and
springs.
2. Check the operation of the overspeed
contact.
3. Check the operation of the tension weight
contact.
4. Check the condition of the pulley (Main)
bearings.
5. Check the wear of the rope groove.
6. 8.6.4.12.1: Examine the governor to
ensure the governor seal is present and
intact.
7. 8.6.4.12.2: Clean the entire governor,
removing all grease, oil and dirt. Ensure the
governor is free from contaminants or
obstructions, or both, that interfere with
operation or function, including the
accumulation of rope lubricant or materials,
or both, in the grooves of governors or
sheaves.
Safety Measures
• Activate the emergency stop on machine or
on car roof (as applicable) to prevent
unexpected movement of the car.
• Do not lubricate the overspeed governor.
Lubrication may reduce the braking force.
• Do not adjust or replace any parts of the
overspeed governor. (Only optional remote
tripping system can be replaced).
• After every operation of overspeed governor
and safety gear check that overspeed
governor
and safety gear are operational.
• If KONE safeties are installed, a product
specific KONE SAFETY GEAR
APPLICATIONS RECORD must be affixed
to the controller, on which all full load
safety applications that occur at rated
speed or governor tripping speed must
be entered.
