Valve Lapping

Apply compound evenly to the valve lapping surface.

Replacing Valve Guide
(When removing)
1.
Using a valve guide replacing tool (see page
S-65),
press out the

Clean a new valve guide, and apply engine oil to
it.
2.
Using a valve guide replacing
tool,
press in a new valve guide
until
it
is flush with the cylinder head as shown
in
the figure.
3.
Ream precisely the I.D.
of
the valve guide to the specified
dimension.

IMPORTANT
Do
not
hit
the valve guide with a hammer, etc. during
replacement.

Free Length and Tilt
of
Valve Sprina
1.
Measure the free length (A) with vernier calipers.
If
the
measurement is less than the allowable limit, replace it.
2. Put the spring on a surface plate, place a square on the side
of
the spring, and check to see
if
the entire side is in contact with
the square, Rotate the spring and measure the maximum
(6).
If
the measurement exceeds the allowable limit, replace.
3.
Check the entire surface of the spring for scratches. Replac it, if
any.
