The Gyrodine gearbox
Upper gearbox:
- Remove filler plug (1) and its washer.
- Place a container of sufficient capacity under drain
plug (2).
- Remove drain plug (2) and its washer.
- Allow oil to drain completely.
- Wait for dripping to stop.
- Clean and reinstall drain plug (2) and its
washer. (Replace if necessary).
- Pour the correct oil quantity and quality through the
opening of the filler plug (1).
- Clean and reinstall filler plug (1) and its
washer. Replace if necessary.
- Check oil level in upper gearbox:
• Remove filler plug (1) and its washer.
• The oil level must reach the lower edge of level
hole (1).
• Top up if necessary.
• Clean and reinstall filler plug (1) and its
washer. Replace if necessary.
Before draining oil, operate the machine for a
few minutes so that the oil warms up.
The upper gearbox is lubricated with 1 L (0.26 US gal) of extreme-pressure gear oil with SAE 80W
viscosity grade API and GL4.
When draining and refilling, it is recommended to use either a mineral base oil with viscosity grade
SAE 80W and API grade GL4, or a synthetic base oil, type PAO (Poly-Alpha-Olefins) with a viscosity
grade equivalent to SAE 80W.
In certain countries SAE 80W GL4 oil may not be available. In this case a GL4 or GL5 grade SAE 80W90
oil is an acceptable substitute for GL4 SAE 80W oil.
