Installingtheservercover
Thissectionprovidesinstructionsonhowtoinstalltheservercover.
Attention:Forpropercoolingandairow,installtheservercoverbeforeturningontheserver.Operating
theserverforextendedperiodsoftime(morethan30minutes)withthecoverremovedmightdamage
servercomponents.
Toinstalltheservercover,dothefollowing:
1.Makesurethatallcables,add-oncards,andothercomponentsareinstalledandseatedcorrectlyand
thatyouhavenotleftloosetoolsorpartsinsidetheserver.Also,makesurethatallinternalcablesare
correctlyrouted.
2.Positiontheservercoveronthechassissothattherailguidesonthebottomoftheservercoverengage
therails.Then,slidetheservercovertothefrontoftheserveruntilitsnapsintopositionandisclosed.
Then,tightenthethumbscrewtosecuretheservercover.
Note:Althoughtheservercoverissecuredbyathumbscrew,forsafetyconsideration,besuretousea
tool,forexampleascrewdriver,totightenthethumbscrewandalwaysmakesurethatthethumbscrew
issecurelyinstalled.Also,donotover-tightenthethumbscrew.
Connectingthecables
Attention:Topreventdamagetoequipment,connectthepowercordslast.
Iftheservercablesandconnectorpanelhavecolor-codedconnectors,matchthecolorofthecableend
withthecoloroftheconnector.Forexample,matchabluecableendwithabluepanelconnector,ared
cableendwitharedconnector,andsoon.SeeRearviewforanillustrationoftheI/Oconnectorson
therearoftheserver.
Turningontheserver
Whentheserverisconnectedtoanacpowersourcebutisnotturnedon,theoperatingsystemdoesnot
run,andallcorelogicexceptfortheserviceprocessor(theintegratedmanagementmodule)isshutdown;
however,theservercanrespondtorequeststotheserviceprocessor,suchasaremoterequesttoturnon
theserver.Thepower-onLEDashestoindicatethattheserverisconnectedtoanacpowersourcebut
isnotturnedon.
Approximatelyvesecondsaftertheserverisconnectedtoacpower,oneormorefansmightstartrunning
toprovidecoolingwhiletheserverisconnectedtopowerandthepower-onbuttonLEDashesquickly.
Approximatelyonetothreeminutesaftertheserverisconnectedtoacpower,thepower-controlbutton
becomesactive(thepower-onLEDashesslowly),andoneormorefansmightstartrunningtoprovide
coolingwhiletheserverisconnectedtopower.Then,youcanturnontheserverbypressingthepower
buttononthefrontcontrolpanel.See“Frontcontrolpanel”onpage25

Updatingtheserverconguration
Whenyouturnontheserverforthersttimeafteryouaddorremoveadevice,youmightreceiveamessage
sayingthatthecongurationhasbeenchanged.TheSetupUtilityprogramstartsautomaticallysothatyou
cansavethenewcongurationsettings.Formoreinformation,seeChapter8“Conguringtheserver”on
page109
.
