WhenaPower-OnPasswordisset,youarepromptedtotypeavalidpasswordeachtimetheserveristurned
on.Theservercannotbeuseduntilthevalidpasswordistypedin.
AdministratorPassword
Settinganadministratorpassworddetersunauthorizedusersfromchangingconfigurationsettings.Ifyou
areresponsibleformaintainingtheconfigurationsettingsofseveralservers,youmightwanttosetan
administratorpassword.Whenanadministratorpasswordisset,youarepromptedtotypeavalidpassword
eachtimeyoutrytoaccesstheSetupUtilityprogram.TheSetupUtilityprogramcannotbeaccesseduntil
avalidpasswordistypedin.
IfboththePower-OnPasswordandAdministratorPasswordareset,youcantypeeitherpasswordtouse
theserver.However,youmustuseyouradministratorpasswordtochangeanyconfigurationsettings.
Setting,changing,anddeletingapassword
Thistopicprovidesinstructionsonhowtoset,change,ordeleteapasswordintheSetupUtilityprogram.
Toset,change,ordeleteapasswordintheSetupUtilityprogram,dothefollowing:
1.StarttheSetupUtilityprogram.See“StartingtheSetupUtilityprogram”onpage23.
2.FromtheSetupUtilityprogrammainmenu,selectSecurity.
3.Dependingonthepasswordtype,selectSetPower-OnPasswordorSetAdministratorPassword.
4.Followtheinstructionsontherightsideofthescreentoset,change,ordeleteapassword.
Note:Apasswordcanbeanycombinationofupto64alphabeticandnumericcharacters.Formore
information,see“Passwordconsiderations”onpage27.
Erasinglostorforgottenpasswords(clearingCMOS)
Thistopicprovidesinstructionsonhowtoeraselostorforgottenpasswords,suchasauserpassword.
Toerasealostorforgottenpassword,dothefollowing:
1.Removeallmediafromthedrivesandturnoffallattacheddevicesandtheserver.Then,disconnectall
powercordsfromelectricaloutletsanddisconnectallcablesthatareconnectedtotheserver.
2.Removetheservercover.See“Removingtheservercover”onpage41.
3.LocatetheClearCMOS/Recoveryjumperonthesystemboard.See“Locatingpartsonthesystem
board”onpage17.
4.RemoveallpartsanddisconnectallcablesthatmightpreventyouraccesstotheClearCMOS
/Recoveryjumper.
5.Movethejumperfromthestandardposition(pin1andpin2)tothemaintenanceposition(pin2and
pin3).
6.Reinstallallpartsandreconnectallcablesthathavebeenremoved.
7.Reinstalltheservercoverandreconnecttheserverpowercord.See“Completingthepartsreplacement”
onpage90.
8.Turnontheserverandleaveitonforapproximately10seconds.Then,turnofftheserverbyholdingthe
powerswitchforapproximatelyfiveseconds.
9.Repeatstep1throughstep4.
10.MovetheClearCMOS/Recoveryjumperbacktothestandardposition(pin1andpin2).
11.Reinstallallpartsandreconnectallcablesthathavebeenremoved.
12.Reinstalltheservercoverandconnectthepowercords.See“Completingthepartsreplacement”
