a. Remove the security bezel (see “Remove the security bezel” on page 198).
b. Remove the top cover (see “Remove the top cover” on page 214).
c. Remove the fan cage assembly (see “Remove the fan cage assembly” on page 130).
d. Disengage all the drives or fillers from the backplane to be removed (see “Remove a 2.5-inch
hot-swap drive” on page 110), and disconnect the cables that are connected to the backplane.
Step 2. Remove the drive backplane.

Lift and hold the retention latches on top of the backplane.
Rotate the backplane from the top to disengage it from the retention latches.
After this task is completed
1. Install a replacement unit (see “Install a drive backplane” on page 112), or fill the corresponding drive
bays with drive fillers.
2. If you are instructed to return the component or optional device, follow all packaging instructions, and
use any packaging materials for shipping that are supplied to you.

Follow instruction in this section to install a drive backplane.

Attention:
Go over “Installation Guidelines” on page 107 to ensure that you work safely.
Touch the static-protective package that contains the component to any unpainted metal surface on the
server; then, remove it from the package and place it on a static-protective surface.
