8.5 Setting tape selection via the webConfig tool
In the webConfig tool (CONFIGURATION > MEASUREMENT DATA > Bar code tape), set the
Tape
selection
parameter according to the used bar code tape grid; see chapter 9.3.2 "CONFIGURATION
function".

8.6 Operating the BPS on the fieldbus and on Ethernet
BPS 300i devices with RS 232 serial interface can be connected to the following fieldbuses or to Ethernet
via the MA 2xxi modular connection units:
Ethernet TCP/IP: MA 208i
CANopen: MA 235i
Ethercat: MA 238i
DeviceNet: MA 255i
EtherNet/IP: MA 258i
8.7 Communication protocol (RS binary protocol)
The RS binary protocol consists of three bytes of request telegram and seven or nine bytes of response
telegram.
Request telegram
The request for transmitting the measured positions or the velocity is controlled via a request telegram that
is three bytes long.
The BPS processes the three bytes of the request telegram, checks the XOR link and executes the func-
tion specified in the command byte.

Reserve control byte: Bit 7 and bit 6 must be set to logical 1.
Byte 1: CMD
Command byte = Data request to the BPS
For operation on PROFIBUS, we recommend using the BPS 304i.
For operation on PROFINET, we recommend using the BPS 348i.
The communication protocol is valid for the RS 232 and RS 422 interfaces.
