2 Safety
This sensor was developed, manufactured and tested in line with the applicable safety standards. It corre-
sponds to the state of the art.
2.1 Intended use
The device is an optical measuring system which uses visible red laser light to determine its position rela-
tive to a permanently mounted bar code tape.
All accuracy details for the BPS 300 measurement system refer to the position relative to the permanently
mounted bar code tape.
Areas of application
The BPS is designed for positioning in the following areas of application:
• Telpher line
• Travel and lifting axes of high-bay storage devices
• Repositioning units
• Gantry crane bridges and their trolleys
•Elevators
2.2 Foreseeable misuse
Any use other than that defined under Intended use or which goes beyond that use is considered
improper use.
In particular, use of the device is not permitted in the following cases:
• Rooms with explosive atmospheres
• In circuits which are relevant to safety
• For medicinal purposes
2.3 Competent persons
Connection, mounting, commissioning and adjustment of the device must only be carried out by competent
persons.

Observe intended use!
 Only operate the device in accordance with its intended use.
The protection of personnel and the device cannot be guaranteed if the device is operated in a manner
not complying with its intended use.

 Read these original operating instructions before commissioning the device.
