4.3 Operation with PLC Interface
4.3.1 Operational Specifications
Table 5 specifies the electrical interface for OEM operation with a PLC. For other configurations the Levitronix
®
Service Software shall be used.
4.3.2 Typical Setups Using the PLC Interface
Figure 9 and Figure 10 illustrate typical electrical setups how to connect signals to the flowmeter.
4.4 Operation with Levitronix
®
Service Software
For debugging, data collection and configuration of the flowmeter system the Levitronix
®
Service Software is
available at Levitronix
®
. Contact Levitronix
®
for a sample of the service software and the according manual.
The standard components for this type of operation are shown in Figure 4.
4.5 Operation with RS485
Operation from a mother system with communication over an RS485 bus is possible. The according MODBUS
protocol can be requested at Levitronix
.
4.6 Measurement of Dynamic Flow Profiles
Measuring dynamic flow profiles, which are for example typically generated by roller or other displacement
pumps, may influence the accuracy of the flow reading. Following converter settings (different from the default
parameters in Table 4) are recommended to improve the measurement accuracy under highly dynamic flow
conditions:
Parameter
Setting or Value
Note
Low Cutoff
0%
Avoid cutting-off low flow spikes (for example from
roller pumps).
Damping Time
0.2 0.5 s (seconds)
Reduces the filter frequency and allows more
dynamic flow readings.
Table 6: Recommended parameter settings for measurements of highly dynamic flow profiles
The settings can be done with the Levitronix
Service Software (see relevant manual).
5 Inspection and Maintenance
The LEVIFLOW
®
ultrasonic flowmeters do not require special maintenance since there are no moving parts
that can be subjected to wear and tear. However, the following periodical checks are recommended to ensure
smooth and reliable operation:
1. Check for excessive mechanical stress onto the tubing clamped on the flowmeter body for example caused by
bended tubing.
2. Inspect for loosen connections caused by excessive vibrations.
3. Inspect the sensor visually for any deposits, excessive bubbles or foreign materials in the measuring tube.
4. When using the tubing multiple times it is recommended to change the clamp-area on the tubing in order to
account for creeping effects in the clamp-area.
