Initial Charging
To ensure full charge and adequate initial performance, store and
maintain batteries according to instructions in Section 5,
Battery
Storage,
and use the guidelines in this section to charge the
batteries at the time of installation.
The purpose of an initial charge is to compensate for self
discharge that occurred in the interval between manufacture and
installation. Under normal circumstances, the battery will regain
most of its capacity after several hours float charge; 90%
capacity should be obtained within 24 hours of float charge.
Before installing the battery modules into the VR battery stand,
the voltage of each module should be measured. Any module
voltage of less than 2 volts (4 volts for 4VR125E and
4VR125EL) should be rejected.
To compensate for self discharge during storage, all battery
modules should be fully charged before being put into service.
Table 6-A shows the proper initial charging conditions.
