OPERATION
Winter operation
120 Operating manual MT 32 / 36
Winter operation
If the MT needs to be operated at low temperatures,
a few precautionary measures and checks are necessary.
z Check the concentration of anti-freeze/corrosion
protection agents in the engine coolant.
z Add anti-freeze to the washer water.
z Have the battery inspected.
Drive operation
DANGER!
Accident hazard!
The braking distance of the MT is longer because of
slippery and icy road conditions.
X Adjust the speed to the circumstances. Safe stopping
must be ensured at all times.
X Reduce the trailer loads well below the maximum per-
mitted values.
Operating materials
Well before the cold season sets in, replace the pertinent oper-
ating materials in the MT with low-temperature variants.
z Use winter diesel or add a flow improver to the fuel. This
prevents paraffin from coagulating in the fuel, which can
reduce or block the fuel supply.
z Use an engine oil suitable for the ambient temperature.
Oil should be changed by qualified technicians.
z The engine coolant has to contain enough anti-freeze
agent to prevent it from freezing. Have the concentration of
anti-freeze agents in the engine coolant checked by quali-
fied technicians and filled up if necessary.
z Add anti-freeze to the windscreen washer water to prevent
the washer water from freezing.
z Rub glycerine onto all rubber parts suchas door seals
to protect them against freezing.
z Treat the door lock with a commercially available anti-
freeze agent. This is especially important if you wash the
MT at low temperatures and water enters the door lock.
