Checking axial play

The axial play of the crankshaft is determined by
the centre crankshaft bearing (thrust bearing).

D Fit dial gauge holder with dial gauge to crank-
case.
D Move crankshaft in axial direction to and fro
and read off play on dial gauge.
D If permissible axial play is exceeded, replace
main bearing shells complete.

Measure connecting rod bearing, insert pistons
with connecting rod. Coat connecting rod bearing
shells with oil and pull connecting rods to bearing
pin.
Mount connecting rod bearing caps with bearing
shells (observe marking - numbers must be on the
same side).
Screw in mounting bolts and tighten in stages to
specified torque.
Tighten finally by angle.
