Appendix A Creating a Good Image
A-2 Visionscape FrontRunner™ User’s Manual v4.1.3, April 2012
The general rule is to fill the field of view with the part you are inspecting,
leaving enough space around the part to compensate for part positioning.
This provides a superior image of the part and regions of interest for the
system to see. In Figure A–1, the image on the left provides more detail,
and thus a more desirable image than the one on the right.
FIGURE A–1. Fields of View
Selecting a Lens
Selecting a lens is one of the most critical factors for obtaining a good
image.
Use the Lens Selection Chart in Figure A–2 to determine the lens size for
the VS-1 Smart Camera.
Note: The Fields of View are approximations.
As a general guideline, lenses that have a longer focal length make the
object appear closer (larger) and show less of the background. For
example, a 50mm lens has a longer focal length than a 25mm lens.
