Clutch=Brake Pedal
Theclutch-brakepedalislocatedon the leftside of
thelawntractor,alongtherunningboard.Depressthe
clutch-brakepedalpartwaydownwhenslowingthe
tractorby changingspeeds(RefertoSpeedControl
Lever).Depressthe pedalall thewaydownto engage
thedisc brakeand bringthetractorto a completestop.
NOTE:Thepedalmustbedepressedtostarttheengine.

Shift Lever
Theshift leverislocatedonthe leftsideof thefender
andhasthreepositions,FORWARD,NEUTRALand
REVERSE.The brakepedalmustbe depressedand
thetractor mustnotbe in motionwhenthe movingshift
lever.SeeFig.4-4.
IMPORTANT:Neverforcetheshift lever.Doingsomay
resultinseriousdamageto the tractor'stransmission.
Speed Control Lever
Thespeedcontrollever,locatedon
theleftsideofthetractor'sdash
console,allowsyouto regulatethe
groundspeedof the lawntractor.To
use,depresstheclutch-brakepedal
andmovetheleveroutof the parking
brakenotchandforwardtoincrease
thetractor'sgroundspeed.Whena
desiredspeedhas beenreached,
releasetheleverintoan appropriate
notchto maintainthatspeed.
Toslowthetractor'sgroundspeed,
depresstheclutch-brakepedaland
movethespeedcontrolleverrearward
andreleaseit intoa notch.

Safety interlock Switches
Thistractorisequippedwitha safetyinterlocksystem
fortheprotectionof the operator.If the interlocksystem
shouldevermalfunction,donotoperatethetractor.
ContactanauthorizedMTDservicedealer.
Thesafetyinterlocksystempreventstheengine
fromcrankingor startingunlessthe parkingbrakeis
engaged,and the PTO(BladeEngage)leverisinthe
disengaged(OFF)position.
Theenginewill automaticallyshutoff if theoperator
leavestheseatbeforeengagingthe parkingbrake.
Theenginewill automaticallyshutoff if theoperator
leavesthetractor'sseatwiththe PTO(BladeEngage)
leverintheengaged(ON)position,regardlessof
whethertheparkingbrakeisengaged.
Theenginewill automaticallyshutoff if theoperator
engagesthe PTOwiththeparkingbrakeON.
Models without Reverse Caution Mode
Theenginewill automaticallyshutoff if the PTO(Blade
Engage)leveris movedintotheengaged(ON)position
withtheshiftleverin Reverse.
Models with Reverse Caution Mode
Withtheignitionkeyin theNORMALMOWINGposi-
tion,theenginewillautomaticallyshutoff ifthePTO
(BladeEngage)leveris movedintotheengaged(ON)
positionwiththeshiftleverinReverse.
